Franciscan Health is partnering with the city of Hammond on a new weekly walking program.

Franciscan Health, which offers similar programs in Crown Point and other communities, is offering a new walking club this fall at the Jean Shepherd Community Center.

Weekly Thursday morning sessions

“The weekly Thursday morning walking program sessions will include health education, a light walk and fun movement and mindfulness activities to help participants stay active and energized,” Franciscan Health said in a press release.

The walks will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays through Nov. 5. Anyone interested should meet at the Jean Shepherd Community Center at 3031 J.F. Mahoney Drive in Hammond and head out on a walk at the neighboring Dowling Park.

What participants should know

“Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. The sessions are planned to take place outdoors and will be canceled in the event of inclement weather,” Franciscan Health said in a press release. “All ages and abilities are welcome. Attendees do not need to be Hammond residents to participate, and no pre-registration is required.”
